Dr. Pavel Karataev joined the Department of Physics at Royal Holloway as a Lecturer in February 2007. His research interests are in the area of development of advanced charged particle beam diagnostics techniques for future Linear Colliders and generation of intense electromagnetic (EM) radiation beams in a broad wavelength range. He has been working on Optical Diffraction Radiation (ODR) transverse beam profile monitor and Laser Wire beam profile monitor at KEK-Accelerator Test Facility (Japan); generation of intense EM radiation using Smith-Purcell phenomenon, Coherent Synchrotron, Transition and Diffraction Radiation (CDR) at Nuclear Physics Institute, Tomsk Polytechnic University.

In 2007 Dr. P. Karataev became a leader of a new initiative at CLIC (Compact LInear Collider) Test Facility (CTF3) in CERN. He is a principal investigator of a new hardware project. The project is devoted to the development of a longitudinal bunch profile monitor on the basis of CDR generated by a charged particle passing nearby a conducting flat target.
