Travelling from New Haw to Ottershaw

Our route to Ottershaw was a bit of an adventure. We took a 'traffic free' route through Brox lane, which I'd expected to be cyclable from the county council's cycle maps, but the surface was loose gravelly material, which we discovered is not good for cycling on. Occaisionally I would cycle over a slightly larger stone which would shoot away and the bike wheel would slip to the side. Possibly this would have been easier on my old bike which had fatter, more nobbly tyres. After struggly up this lane for some time it turned into a private road, with right of way to pedestrians only, so we had to get off and walk. This turned out to be a farm growing parsley. Having passed through the farm we got back on our bikes and the loose road surface continued for sometime. Not a route I'd recommend without a proper mountain bike with suspension and good tyres.

We then made use of the cyclepath that runs along the very busy A320 to get up the hill to Ottershaw.
