During the last couple of years work on particle theory followed 3 directions. First, the implications of string theory for CP violating phases in soft supersymmetry-breaking terms and in the CKM matrix were explored. Second, the question of cosmological inflation was investigated in the context of string theories with the dynamics constrained by modular symmetries, and, third, the implications of the strongly coupled M-theory limit of string theory for the supersymmetric particle spectrum and for the dark matter were studied, with the lightest supersymmetric particle assumed to provide this dark matter.

GOODBYE dark matter, hello dark energy. Dr George Kraniotis and Dr Steve Whitehouse say the motion of stars in spiral galaxies such as the Milky Way can be explained by energy floating in empty space. This puts paid to the idea that galaxies are stuffed full of invisible dark matter.

 CURRENT ACTIVITY
