Bayesian statistical methods for parton analyses

Glen Cowan
Abstract:
Theoretical and other systematic uncertainties dominate in the predictions for many observables at the LHC, and it is precisely these types of error that can be best quantified using Bayesian statistics. Difficulties with current methods used in parton fits will be discussed. In particular the question of incompatible data sets will be addressed.
